Morocco has set the "quantifiable" objective of 10 million tourists in the year 2010. The outline agreement signed in 2001 between the government and the professionals (private sector) was an opportunity to set up a new strategic vision which will consolidate the tourist sector by giving it a prominent place within the national economy.

5 years after the signature of this agreement, the overall tourist activity in Morocco has accomplished remarkable performances with regard to the tourist entries, and Marrakech was always on top of the most visited cities.

2000-2005 was the season in which Marrakech was confirmed as the 1st tourist destination in the Kingdom.
